Here’s a versatile red that is complex, delicious and reasonable.
With so many wines to taste and so many buying decisions to make at Winebank, pulling the trigger can be a bit difficult sometimes, with the same old refrains rattling around in the noggin:
1. “The wine’s great but the price is a bit much.”
2. “The price is great but the wine is just ok.”
3. “The wine is good, the price is good, but the wine’s just too weird.”
When we tasted the Dievole line, there were a couple of close calls, but the whole lineup was just wonderful. Sure, there may have been a #1 (see above) but a complete absence of numbers 2 and 3.
Buying the 15 Dievole Chianti Classico was a joy to add to our inventory. The price is great and the wine is so easy to drink. The presence of the Canaiolo Nero grape (and an extra year in bottle) imbues the wine with components of smoked meats and deep red fruits. Throw in just a smidgeon of nutmeg and you have Dievole Chianti Classico.
That brings us to #4:
“No brainer. We’ll take it.”
