Wine Tasting ~ West Coast & Loire | Apr 13
April 11, 2019
We're cruising the west coast
from Santa Cruz Mountains to the Pacific Northwest with a stop in the Loire Valley. Some unique, some classic, some iconic, most organic, most biodynamic, all great and all great prices!
West Coast & Loire | Apr 13 @12-5pm2018 Division Wine Company, Rosé of Gamay Noir, l'Avoiron ~ $19Division Wines, a funky operation based in Portland, is making some really cool stuff. They aren't afraid to experiment and the winemaking is spot-on, the result being clean, focused and really vibrant wines. This rose has a serious side, with lovely fresh berry hints and a 'roundness' to the structure. It's crisp, refreshing and versatile enough to be drunk as a stand-alone or with spring fare. Think ham. Think Easter!
2017 Division Wine Company Pinot Noir 'Un', Willamette Valley ~ $29This is serious Pinot Noir from a wonderful pacific Northwest vintage. The wine has great structure but is relatively approachable now, with an engaging earthiness. Strawberry and black fruits fill the core, and there is a pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg in the mix. You'll see what we mean!
2016 Domaine Richou, Anjou, Les 4 Chemins ~ $18Generously fruity Cabernet Franc/Cabernet blend. Dust, earth, telltale Cab Franc pepper. Noticeable but soft tannins.
2016 Big Basin Vineyards, Homestead, Rhône ~ $25This one has everything but the kitchen, ah, basin. Predominantly Syrah and Grenache with handfuls of other Rhone varietals thrown in. The aroma and flavors follow the classic Rhone profile as well, with earthy dark fruits, smoke and fruit that is ripe but understated. Full bodied and sturdy. This puzzle has all the pieces.
