The 2018 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru comes from a parcel on hard white marl soils over ferrous clay. It has an outgoing bouquet of copious red cherry and crushed strawberry aromas laced with cassis, a little too extroverted considering the vineyard. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and quite robust in the mouth, but it needs a touch more precision and finesse on the sinewy finish.
